Relive historic victory

- MATTHEW GALLAGHER

It was the game St Johnstone fans dreamed of winning – and Tommy Wright delivered.

While the manager with legendary status has now left the club, Perth fans are already being presented with the chance to relive the defining moment of his seven-year tenure.

The club will be reminiscing back to the famous 2014 Scottish Cup win against Dundee United next Sunday, May 17 - the six year anniversary of the historic triumph.

Saints TV will play the full game with a kick-off time of

3pm, but the day of unbridled joy will include far more than just a re-run of the 2-0 victory.

“We’re all missing our football fix just now and we all wish we could get back to enjoying the excitement that 90 minutes of a match brings,”a club spokesperson told the PA.

“Although there are no fixtures we can look forward to for the foreseeable, we’ve been thinking about ways we can try to recreate that matchday experience for our supporters.

“With the anniversary of our 2014 Scottish Cup win just around the corner, we thought that would be the perfect place to start.

“So, we’re inviting our fans to relive that special day in May.

“The full match will be live on Saints TV from 3pm on Sunday, May 17 with pre-match build-up all morning prior to the game.

“We want to see social media flooded with your pictures from the final and it would be great to have supporters in full colours getting ready to enjoy the virtual matchday.

“We’ll be catching up with some of the stars of the cup-winning side and getting their favourite memories from the day in the lead-up to kick-off before the main event.”

Saints added:“The virtual matchday will incorporate our annual tradition of remembering those who have sadly passed away during the season and a 50-50 draw, both of which will take place at “half-time”of the match.

“The 50-50 draw tickets are on-sale now and could be a nice income boost during these difficult times.

“Tickets cost just £1 each and you can buy as many as you like.

“Not only are you giving yourself a great chance of winning some cash, but you’re also supporting your club.”
