20k face masks arrive in region from China
Key workers in Perth and Kinross will be better prepared in tackling the coronavirus pandemic after a donation of 20,000 face masks from the Chinese government.
The masks were donated by the Consul General Ma Qiang of the Peoples Republic of China and Shandong Province delegation.
This was in addition to the donation of PPE items received by Chinese community associations throughout Scotland and the UK.
The donation came from a working partnership between Andy Chan, chairman of the Perth Chinese Association, Consul General Ma Qiang of the Peoples Republic of China and Perth and Kinross Council.
Andy and Perth and Kinross Council staff collected the PPE items, with the masks quickly being put to good use to help key workers in the region.
Andy said: “These existing, longstanding partnerships, which have grown over time, are a leading example of the positive benefits of being part of a global community during challenging times.
“The Perth Chinese Association is very proud of the work we do in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council to support and welcome people from all over the world who come to live and work in our area.
“Over the years there have been many excellent examples where we have worked together to celebrate Chinese culture and support and develop the Chinese community in Perth and Kinross.
“Our partnership working shows that we can really achieve so much more when we work together in cooperation, sharing our resources and our good will.
“But it’s not just about events but about building and strengthening the relationship between us all and China.”
Perth and Kinross Council chief executive Karen Reid commented: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our citizens and staff is paramount.
“We very much appreciate this kind donation of PPE from China which is already benefiting key workers across Perth and Kinross.
“This reflects the strong relationship and community spirit that we have with our Chinese community in Perth and Kinross, Scotland and around the world, and is another excellent example of people pulling together to respond to and overcome the coronavirus pandemic.”
