Book can give solace during crisis

-

A Perthshire deacon is hoping to help provide spiritual comfort for people in the region at this time of crisis.

The Reverend Len Moir, a permanent deacon in the Diocese of Dunkeld, has just published a short book,‘Prayer in times of hardship’offering support to those who have found these recent days a struggle.

Deacon Moir said: “Either on our daily exercise, or in the isolation of their own homes, most people have had much more time for thinking in these past few weeks; thinking about friends and family, about the wider world and about how the future will look.

“COVID-19 has spread not only physical pain but mental and spiritual anguish too.

“For many, the places where they would normally worship, or perhaps pop in to say a prayer, are currently closed; for those with no church connections, it may be they are searching for a deeper understanding.

“We will each have a unique take on these dreadful events whether we have a faith or not. In our humanity we may feel a need to wonder how others are coping. This basic need and concern is a part of our human condition.”

Len,a keen mountaineer, launched his book earlier this month.

He said:“The current COVID-19 lockdown is teaching us all a lot about ourselves.

“We are restricted in our movements and our contact with others. We should not forget that these conditions are already most familiar to those in our communities who are sick or housebound.

“We have also seen many heroic acts of support shown by friends and neighbours and indeed by the NHS workers, care home workers and all who have continued to provide the important services which are necessary at this time.”

Len’s book, priced at £5, is available for online ordering at www. dunkelddiocese.co.uk/ shop or by email to dunkeldnews@ dunkelddiocese.co.uk or call 07806 789791.

A convenient collection point can be arranged, otherwise allow an extra £1.50 for post and packing.
