Bakers rise to corona challenge with new services

-

Breadalbane Bakery is successfully adapting to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Aberfeldy-based business has turned its tearoom area into a pantry and green grocers in order to supply a wide range of items for grateful locals.

Since taking over the small shop in 2009, the bakery has continued to grow by offering a wide and award-winning range of products.

The coronavirus pandemic has made business operations different for now but Breadalbane Bakery continues to serve the public with pride.

Hannah Curston of Breadalbane Bakery explains:“Whilst we had shut our tearoom under the government’s restrictions, we were quick to make use of the space to help the community.

“We transformed it into a pantry and green grocers, supplying a wide range of pantry items including essential baking items flour, sugar, yeast - plus lots of pasta, tinned goods and toilet toll.

“We also started a small selection of fruit and veg. This has quickly grown and we now offer a huge range of fresh and loose fruit and veg from our suppliers Les Turiff in Dundee.

Baking has continued six nights-a-week to keep the community going with fresh bread and cakes.

Hannah said the bakery was “proud”to introduce the delivery service, and said it had also been working with the Feldy Roo charity, which offers a free meal service for all over 70s in Aberfeldy and the surrounding area.

She added:“As for the future, we are starting to plan out our full-time plans for turning our tearoom into a full time green grocers and pantry. We want to compile a list of local food producers whose produce we can sell. We’re looking to our community to help us source everything from local fruit and veg, jams, honey, tablet, cheese and chocolates.

“If you have something to offer, please let us know.

“We look forward to this new venture.”
