No surprise that people wentofftherails

-

I read with despair the headline ‘Weekend is marred by litter and rule breakers’ in the PA on June 2.

Is it little wonder folk may go off the rails when cooped up in houses week after week, listening every day to politicians broadcasting the daily news of the virus?

All we hear are rules about having to stay at a safe distance and not being able to walk in the hills and, until recently, there being nowhere to take your rubbish for weeks.

Now we have a situation where some experts tell us things are slowly getting better but others warn that the changes are all happening too quickly, the virus is still there and there is no vaccine.

I can understand how people reacted when being let loose a little after weeks of confinement.

Then there are the many cancelled hospital appointments to consider.

I suffer from an inner ear complaint where feeling sick and a loss of balance is an everyday occurrence and often means I can’t go anywhere.

The last time I saw the doctor was in January and I am on a waiting list, but I am lucky as there are many in a far worse position.

What I find annoying is that the government was aware of this virus from day one and, rather than attempting to combat it, a major horse racing meeting and a big pop concert were allowed and the PM was going around shaking hands.

I am sure that when this ends, and God knows when that will be, then will come the blame game.

And those who have lost so much, including the lives of loved ones, will want answers.
