New sign is welcomed

-

A Perthshire councillor has hailed the installation of a vehicle activated sign (VAS) at an accident blackspot.

Cllr David Illingworth says the sign at the Tibbermore junction between the Windyedge junction on the A9 and A85 west of Methven will be welcomed by the local community.

The sign was unveiled on Friday after a three-year campaign to have it installed.

Cllr Illingworth said: “I’m delighted that the council has installed these VAS at the Tibbermore junction.

“I have been keen to have these installed for three years so it is very gratifying to actually see them in place.

“The VAS system will replicate one that is currently operating on the A977 and will have two VAS on the main road into Tibbermore.

“The VAS will activate a warning sign and a message, depending on a couple of factors.

“If a vehicle is travelling above the 40mph speed limit, the message will be‘Slow Down.’If there is a vehicle approaching or crossing the crossroads, the message will be‘vehicles crossing.’

“Additional warning signs will be erected on the two minor roads to warn vehicles of the junction ahead.

“There have been a few accidents here so I’m sure the local community will welcome the installation of the VAS at this site.”

A 40mph limit was implemented in March 2019 for the growing local community.

Perth and Kinross Council plan to review the effect of the VAS before considering further options which could include a staggered junction, roundabout or traffic lights.
