Swede joins Muirhead

-

Former world and European champion Kristian Lindström will coach Team Muirhead for the 2020/21 season.

The Swede, who won gold at the 2011 World Junior Championships in Perth, holds a vast amount of experience.

He will work with Perthshire skip Eve Muirhead and her team of Lauren Gray, Jennifer Dodds and Vicky Wright as focus turns towards Beijing 2022.

Lindström said:“To be joining the programme and relocating to Scotland to work with one of the world’s best curling teams is a great opportunity and one you don’t get too often, and you have to grab chances like that when they come along.”

Lindström started working with Muirhead’s rink as their tactical coach just before the Scottish Championships this year. He was also preparing them for the World Women’s Curling Championships in Canada, one of the first major international events to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I knew Team Muirhead competed at a high level but seeing them in action at a Grand Slam in January was a great motivator to be working with a focused and talented team who were getting better and better,”added 30-year-old Lindström.

“I really felt the cancelled World Championships was a missed opportunity for them.

“It could have been something great for them. However, looking forward, we have something special to build on in this next chapter. To be part of such a high calibre team, it is an exciting period ahead to prove what they are truly capable of.”
