Council making childcare progress

- ROBBIE CHALMERS

Perth and Kinross Council is “progressing well”with the roll-out of its funded Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) programme.

The local authority estimates that it will be able to delivery 1140 hours of childcare to approximately 70 per cent of their settings from August this year.

It cames after the Scottish Government announced on July 7 that the plans to offer 1140 hours of funded early learning and childcare to all three and four year olds and eligible two year olds in Scotland had been delayed and would be introduced during 2020-21.

A PKC spokesperson said:“Perth and Kinross Council is progressing well with the delivery of 1140 hours, and we anticipate being able to deliver 1140 hours in approximately 70 per cent of our settings from August 2020.

“We have used the outdoor environment in each setting to maximise the space available and are working to deliver 1140 hours by the end of this year, pending further guidance from Scottish Government.

“In the meantime, we will ensure that all children have access to a minimum of 600 hours of funded provision.”
