Drivers warned of M90 works

- ROBBIE CHALMERS

A major Perthshire motorway will have overnight closures and traffic restrictions imposed over the next three days to allow resurfacing works to be carried out.

A section of the M90 southbound carriageway, south of Bridge of Earn, will have defects in the road surface through junction nine addressed as part of a £385,000 project.

The project will include improvements to the southbound onslip and off-slip for the A912, to ensure the safety of the trunk road network.

Improvement works began yesterday (Thursday) with the majority planned to take place over the weekend using 24-hour working, with completion expected by 6.30am on Monday, August 3.

Resurfacing works took place on the junction nine southbound off-slip toward the A912 yesterday (July 30).

The slip road was closed overnight between 7.30pm and 6.30am this morning to allow teams to safely complete the work.

From later today (July 31) to Monday, August 3 resurfacing will take place on the southbound M90 and southbound on-slip road.

To ensure roadworkers and road users are kept safe during the project, a contraflow system will be in place on the M90 between Bridge of Earn and Balmanno Hill from 7.30pm tonight until 6.30am Monday, August 3.

The M90 junction nine southbound on-slip will be closed for the duration of the project.

Signed diversions will be in place via the M90 northbound to junction 11 at Barnhill and then back southbound via M90.

Commenting on the project, Andy Thompson, BEAR Scotland’s north east representative, said: “This latest investment from Transport Scotland will allow us to carry out surfacing improvements on this section of the M90 to ensure our network continues to operate at the highest standard.

“The safety of our employees and our supply chain remains a top priority at this difficult time, and all personnel will be subject to strict physical distancing protocols in line with Scottish Government guidance to ensure they are kept safe.

“Thorough risk assessments have been developed and cleansing stations will be implemented on site to ensure all staff remain safe.

“The traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists during this project.

“To help minimise delays as much as possible, we’ve planned the majority of the improvements to take place over one weekend using 24-hour working, and our teams will do all they can to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

“We thank motorists for their patience in advance while our teams carry out these essential improvements on the M90.

“We encourage road users to plan their journeys in advance by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up to date traffic information and allow some extra time to reach their destination.”
