Blair takes short cut to aid charity

- MATTHEW GALLAGHER

Kind-hearted Perth youngster Blair Cunningham braved the shave to raise funds for charity.

The Morrison’s Academy pupil (12) had his locks chopped last week to gather money for Kidney Care UK.

Blair’s gran Evelyn MacDonald was a dialysis and transplant patient.

Proud mum Lynne said: “My mum was a kidney dialysis patient from when

I was eight. She passed away 11 years ago.

“She had two transplants and went for kidney dialysis at the Renal Unit at Ninewells.

“Blair has always known about his gran because I talk about her a lot. He has knowledge of her without really remembering her.

“We’ve been in lockdown so his hair has been growing. I’d said we need to get it cut and how about getting it shaved for charity.

“When we mentioned about doing it for gran he said ‘absolutely’.”

Blair posted on his fundraising page: “I am glad to be doing this in my gran’s memory and have my beanie hat on standby for cold days.”

Lynne added: “Blair was very keen to do it. He has been really up for it and wanted to do it just before he went back to school.”

Blair’s efforts have raised £700 so far.

“We put on the Justgiving page a target of £300 so he has managed to get a few hundred over that,” said Lynne.

“He went around a few of the neighbours and asked people online. He really is delighted.” Paul Bristow from Kidney Care UK said: “We do not receive any government funding so it is simply down to the generosity of our kind fundraisers like Blair that we are able to continue to support people with kidney disease in Scotland and throughout the UK.” To donate to Blair’s charity efforts visit www. justgiving.com and search for blairfcunningham6.
