MP starts virtual booking system

-

A Perthshire MP has become the first in the UK to launch a‘virtual surgery’ booking system.

John Nicolson MP has started the system for constituents across Ochil and South Perthshire to ask questions to or raise an issue with their elected representative at Westminster.

Most MPs hold weekly surgeries in their constituency to give their constituents an opportunity to meet and discuss matters of concern.

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has resulted in the majority of parliamentarians cancelling their surgeries, but the

SNP MP has worked with web development agency CMS Scot Ltd to create an automated ‘virtual surgery’ booking system.

Ochil and South Perthshire constituents can now book a‘virtual surgery’ slot by selecting a time, date and preferred method of contact on the MP’s website.

Mr Nicolson said: “Surgeries have always been a vital aspect of the work of an MP, and I am keen for that to continue under all circumstances.

“As such, my office and I are excited to announce that we’ve set up a whole new system for ‘virtual surgeries’, your chance as a constituent to talk directly with your Member of Parliament.

“Whether you want a one-to-one appointment with me over the telephone or using Zoom, you can now request a‘virtual surgery’on my website at www. osp.scot/surgeries”

Mat Cassen, director of CMS Scot Ltd, added: “It has been great to work with a group fully aware of the need to adapt to the times, finding innovative approaches in the service of constituents.

“With a distributed team, the need for online management and automation is critical, as are accessibility and ease-of-use for all concerned.

“As we move forward and out of the crisis, offering a combination of virtual and in-person surgeries will mean increased accessibility to elected representatives.”
