Contact tracing app for business launches

-

A new contact tracing app will go live next week for businesses in Perth and Kinross.

Perthshire Chamber of Commerce will launch the app on Monday, September 7.

The Track and Trace web app will give business owners a platform to easily and securely check-in customers and collect the data needed to support the Scottish Government’s Test and Protect Programme.

They can also manually check-in guests who do not have a smartphone.

This app is free to Perthshire Chamber members with a small fee for non-members, but of course those wishing to participate can take advantage of the chamber’s offer of three free months’, no-obligation membership to access this service at no cost along with a raft of additional business support benefits.

Although predominantly aimed at those in the tourism and hospitality sectors, the service is open to any business which may need to provide Test and Protect data to NHS.

Visitors simply scan a QR code with a smartphone on entry and input their contact information to be held securely for use if required by NHS Scotland.

This means that after the first sign-in, they can check-in easily and securely each time they visit a café, restaurant, hotel or visitor attraction which is using the app.

The information gathered, which automatically expires after 21 days, is held centrally by Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, to be provided to the NHS

Scotland Test and Protect team if required.

The web app can be tailored for any business which signs up, and the system creates their businesses’ unique QR code and provides a support package of posters and flyers to promote their use of the Track and Trace initiative and businesses can also check the number of logins on their own online dashboard.

This is the latest measure rolled out by Perthshire Chamber which has been supporting their 400 members and many non-members since the start of the COVID-19 crisis.

Chief executive, Vicki Unite, said: “The Track and Trace app gives businesses the chance to quickly and securely capture the data needed with a minimum of hassle.

“It will help give visitors and customers the confidence to safely visit Perthshire establishments knowing the necessary contact tracing information is being collected in line with GDPR requirements.”

The web app was originally created for the Cairngorms Business Partnership by developer Rory Boyd and is already in use at several of Scotland’s 30 Chambers of Commerce including Cairngorms, Moray, Lochaber and Forth Valley.

Business owners who would like to know more about the Test and Trace app, which is branded under the #ProtectPerthshire hashtag, should contact the Chamber on 01738 448325 or email trackandtrace@ perthshirechamber.co.uk
