Olympic swimmer Milne on joining Stirling Uni elite

host online yoga sessions. “It was good fun,” said Milne. “One of the things I enjoy with land training is the yoga.

“I went through my routine that I do at home with some of the swimmers from the club. I hope they got something positive from it.

“I’m always interested to see how everyone at the club is doing. I’ll be keeping a lookout. “Whenever I could give something back, I would.

“Perth City Swim Club has good swimmers coming through, good depth which is down to Ann’s programme.

“There are a lot of swimmers who have high aspirations, which is always good. There are no reasons why they can’t go places.”

Swimming has been given the green light at Milne’s new Stirling base but, during the COVID-19 layoff, it was simply a case of maintaining fitness levels.

He admits it was a touch surreal getting back into the water after a lengthy break, but it didn’t take long before the stroke was smooth once more.

Milne said: “I did a lot of land training work, training that I was perhaps not so used to. It

was hard work but I always enjoy that.

“I just needed to make sure I was remaining as fit as I could be, staying strong and flexible so that, when I got back in the pool, I hadn’t lost much fitness.

“I’ve been doing one swim session a day and, as I understand, we’ll soon be able to get more training in as long as everything complies with government guidelines.

“It’s been very nice to get back in the water and to get the feel again. It took a week or so to get used to it all because it had been a long time.

“I’ll be pure swimming, fulltime and giving it a real go for the next few years. We’ll see what comes with it.

“I’d still like to make the team for the next major championships. It’s hard to tell what the future will look like at the moment.

“But I just want to do the best I can in the pool and in training to give me the best opportunity for whatever the major championship is.

“I want to be swimming as fast as I can, no matter where events are going to be held.

“We’ll all just need to see what the calendar looks like for the next few years and take it day by day.”
