Davies setting sights on his 100th Kinnoull goal

-

Rhys Davies is hoping to net his 100th goal for Kinnoull in season 2020/21.

The striker has revealed he sits 24 off the century but is planning for a productive campaign to reach the milestone.

Kinnoull are back in training at Tulloch Park ahead of their proposed October 10 start for the East of Scotland League’s Conference B.

Last season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic but, when action gets going, Davies is determined to get on the goal trail quickly.

“I ended up with 11 goals last season, which I didn’t think was the best, although the season did get cut short,”he said.

“I’m looking forward to striking some form this coming season. I’m 24 goals off 100 for Kinnoull - so I’ll be happy with anything past that number.”

Davies, formerly of Jeanfield Swifts, will look to strike a lethal partnership with fellow frontman Dale Smart.

He said: “Myself and Dale started forming a good partnership before the season finished early.

“Hopefully we can kick that off again when the season starts.

“We have a good young team and I think I’m one of the oldest now.

“But my experience can help the team. I’m feeling confident about this season and can’t wait to start.”

On the fitness front, Davies is feeling in good shape but realises the match sharpness will come with games.

“I’m looking forward to returning to the games now and to get that buzz back on a Saturday,”said the 27-year-old.

“I kept myself pretty fit during lockdown with runs and cycles but there is only so much you can do.

“I’m glad to be back into training ahead of getting the match sharpness back.

“It’s been nice to just get back on the football pitch.”

Meanwhile, striker Gordon Norrie has left the club and manager Alan Cameron said he was sad to see him go.

He added: “He told me he had decided he wanted to move on and he does with our best wishes.”
