Fine for hurling abuse at his own mother

-

A young Perth man spent the whole day and evening drinking after his girlfriend revealed she had cheated on him with his best friend.

And when he staggered home around midnight, boozed-up Kyle McGregor, who was also suspected of having taken drugs, subjected his mother to an hour-long rant.

The 23-year-old went into his mother’s bedroom and demanded a cigarette. But when she could only offer him a roll-up, he totally flipped.

He called her a“f***ing mongol”and then hurled other insults at her before knocking a jewellery box off a chest of drawers, scattering its contents across the floor.

His terrified mum ordered him to leave the flat and threatened to call the police in a bid to“get him to calm down,”depute fiscal Lisa Marshall told Perth Sheriff Court.

But his objectionable behaviour continued and he branded her“a fat junkie.”

Officers arrived at her home in Angus Court about 12.20am - and they found her“clearly upset.”

“The accused was in the toilet and they could hear him still shouting - he was still calling her a f***ing mongol - and he was arrested.”

The verbal insults continued as McGregor, of Nimmo Avenue, was taken to the Barrack Street police HQ in Perth.

He paid the penalty at Perth Sheriff Court when he was fined £1000 for what Sheriff Lindsay Foulis condemned as “unacceptable behaviour.”

The accused admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing at the Fairfield flat and at Perth Police station on February 23, 2020.

Miss Marshall said:“The accused had been out all day and evening drinking alcohol.

“He returned home just after midnight on February 23, heavily under the influence of alcohol.

“His mother also suspected he had been abusing drugs.”

McGregor’s lengthy rant kicked off because he could not get a cigarette.

Solicitor Pauline Cullerton explained:“It was an unfortunate situation whereby he had been told by his girlfriend she had been having a relationship with his best friend.

“They fell out and he had been out for most of the day. He was angry and upset and tried to explain things to his mother.

“He took his anger out on his mum, which he regrets. He’s shameful and remorseful.”

McGregor has not touched any alcohol since that incident.

He had spent some time living with his father but was now back with his mother and split the rent with her.

Sheriff Foulis noted that two previous community payback orders, both of which had been completed, had not appeared to have “made any particular inroads”into the accused’s behaviour.

“I will hit you in the pocket,”he told the accused - and ordered him to pay the penalty at £30 a week.
