Alex tribute funds will help SCAA
Tragic piper was charity supporter
Alex’s memorial fundraiser began last Friday and more than £4500 has already been donated.
In presenting the Facebookbased funding appeal, Alex’s mum Chris Ross explained: “Alex’s initial intended career was to be a paramedic, but following his illness in 2012, he was unable to follow this career path and so went on to study nursing with a view to expanding his knowledge and potentially to continue in that vein.
“Alex himself supported this charity during his life, which helped his own friends, family and acquaintances in times of need and so his family and his fiancée know this would be his chosen charity.
“If anyone not on Facebook would like to make a donation, they can be made directly to the charity.”
John Bullough, chairman of SCAA, knew Alex well and is also a member of the Atholl Highlanders, the only private army in the UK whose members form an elite piping unit.
He attended piping events alongside Alex and was deeply saddened to learn of his death.
On seeing the formation of the fund to benefit SCAA, Mr Bullough said it was “an incredibly generous thought”. He added: “I enjoyed being quizzed by Alex on the clinical aspects of our [medical and logistical] operation.”
“He was a great advocate of the charity from the very beginning.”
SCAA’s stated aims are to provide a sustainable charitably funded air ambulance supporting the Scottish Ambulance Service across Scotland in the emergency relief of serious sickness and injury and the protection of human life.
