Off to a head start with salon sponsorship

- MATTHEW GALLAGHER

Abernethy 2005s will be a cut above this season after receiving vital sponsorship from a popular Perth hair salon.

County Place-based business Emmie Hair has helped to provide stylish new strips for the young team ahead of their 2020/21 campaign.

Derek Wilkie, head coach at Abernethy 2005s, was extremely grateful to receive the kit as football makes its return following the coronavirus shutdown.

“We really appreciate what they have done for us,”Derek told the PA.

“As a new team, you are maybe not going to get as many people looking to donate or give up their money.

“Getting a sponsorship such as this is excellent and gives the team that backing we need.

“The facilities and the equipment that we need all costs money. You have referee fees and pitch fees too.”

The team will be playing in the Dundee league this coming season having last year represented Bridge of Earn.

Derek added: “It’s nice to have everyone back together and they are all positive about the football. The attitudes have been great.

“We brought in a couple of players last season and it was like a new lease of life.

“The spirit in the team was right up and we were looking to progress up the league. We knew we were going somewhere.

“The players are taking on board what we’re saying to them and we can’t wait to get this new season started.”

Emma Docherty, owner of Emmie Hair, didn’t think twice about helping the team with sponsorship.

She said: “We were more than happy to do anything for the club. We’ve never sponsored a young football team before so it’s nice in that sense.

“Last week was the first time I actually saw the strip and it looks really nice on the boys.

“We’ve been back in seven days a week at the salon and my first weekend off was spent out at the football pitch.”

Commenting on getting back to business after a lengthy closure due to COVID-19, Emma added: “It has been amazing to see all of my clients again.

“It was four months we were off for, which was really tough. We weren’t even a year old when this happened but there was nothing we could do.

“Everyone kept in touch online and that was lovely. I knew our clients would still be there when we returned.”
