Volunteers needed for Perth’s Poppy Appeal
The Scottish Poppy Appeal is searching for a new volunteer area organiser to lead the fundraising push in Perth this year.
The charity says its need for helping hands is even greater than before, due to the ongoing pandemic and the resultant restrictions brought about by the virus.
Area organisers form a 420-strong team covering every city, town and village in Scotland, helping the charity to pin up to five million poppies on to Scotland’s coats, jackets and jumpers to raise funds for the country’s Armed Forces community.
Poppyscotland head of fundraising Gordon Michie says the charity is looking for individuals and businesses with “good organisational skills”to step forward and lead this year’s appeal in the Fair City.
He explains:“We’re looking for individuals, businesses, groups of friends, or community organisations that have good organisational skills to step forward to lead this year’s appeal in Perth. Our need is greater than ever before with the COVID-19 pandemic continuing.
“To adapt to this and to adhere to government guidelines, we have added contactless giving via smart phones that will enable the public to show their support whilst keeping them and our volunteers safe.
“By volunteering for Poppyscotland you will be helping us transform the lives of veterans in Scotland, those currently serving, and their families who are in need.
“The money raised from the annual Poppy Appeal enables us to provide life-changing support to those affected by many issues including poverty, mental health problems and disability.
“Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and, without their vital support, we simply wouldn’t be able to deliver the Scottish Poppy Appeal.”
Christine Evans, who has been a Poppyscotland area organiser since 2012, said:“Just do it because you will be amazed by the support you receive.”
