Full spud ahead for tattie supplier

Branston’s 24,000-mile charity challenge

-

A Perthshire potato supplier is more than halfway through its 24,000mile challenge to virtually travel around the world in 80 days.

The Branston campaign aims to support its charity of the year, Rachel House in Kinross, run by Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

With over 100 employees and suppliers taking part across its three sites, the company is on track to reach its target of 24,901 miles, with its team having so far walked, run and cycled more than 12,500 miles in 40 days.

In order to complete the challenge, the team needs to cover more than 300 miles a day and is currently just 56 miles ahead of its projected target - having reached the Pacific Ocean, just above the islands of Tonga.

The challenge launched on Saturday, August 8 and will finish on Monday, October 26.

James Truscott, managing director at Branston, said: “We’re really proud of all the team for getting involved and helping us to achieve our goal for our chosen charity.

“We’ve had staff from all our sites walking, running and cycling.

“Some are fitting it in to their lunchbreaks or after work, while some are making the most of some very active weekends and holidays.”

The around the world challenge is the latest campaign to support the organisation’s chosen charity of the year, with staff from all its sites raising much-needed funds for Rachel House, which provides care for babies, children and young people with a range of lifeshortening conditions.

James added: “We’ve been really lucky with the weather and we anticipate it will become more of a challenge as the winter months approach.

“However, our employees are really pushing themselves to go out and exercise. We all look forward to reaching the virtual finish line.”
