Preparing firms for Euro exit
Following the launch of the chamber’s International Club and specific to the UK’s exit from the EU, we are working with the UK Customs Academy (UKCA www.ukcustomsacademy.co.uk) and the Institute of Export and International Trade to address supply chain, import and export challenges for Perthshire companies.
UKCA was set up at the request of HM Revenue and Customs to help UK-based companies prepare for the new‘Customs and Excise’legislation, beginning on January 1, 2021.
If you are involved in EU trade you will require to understand the documentation necessary.
Whether you execute the document completion in-house or use a third party, the company itself is responsible for the accuracy and validity of the paperwork and therefore a knowledge of what is correct will need to be understood at the very least.
The good news is that there is funding available to provide training for this.
The £50million of grant funding is available but is working on a first come, first served basis and is disappearing fast.
The funding will support UK-based companies with training to help handle customs declarations.
The grants are available to customs intermediaries and companies involved in trade as importers or exporters, even if you use a third party to complete your declarations.
The funding is open to businesses that are established in or have a branch in the UK when the grant is paid to you, and for those that have not previously failed to meet tax obligations.
To apply for the grants, your business must either complete customs declarations for yourself or someone else (or intend to in the future) and you must import from or export to the EU.
The grant will give you up to 100 per cent of the cost of training for your employees, up to a limit of £1500 per trainee. It will also cover the cost of our in-house training up to a limit of £1500 for each employee on the course.
