ONLINE PANTO IS A FESTIVE CRACKER AROUND THE WORLD
Perth Theatre’s Christmas panto has generated guffaws from Germany and sniggers from Switzerland.
The marketing team at Horsecross Arts were delighted to find the daft and dramatic‘Oh Yes We Are!’show has drawn online fans from far beyond the Fair City.
The gag-filled entertainment has gone down well - The PA’s reporter Melanie Bonn gave it four stars and declared it“A Christmas cracker with plenty of snap for young and old.”
She added:“Unless you are a total Grinch, a sing-song in your front room is well worth a try.”
Plenty of Perthshire families have bought tickets that provided them with a Zoom meeting invitation to interact live with Dame Barrie Hunter and pals.
On top of that, people from all over have been able to enjoy the show with reports of audiences online tuning in for a laugh from France, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Canada, USA and Singapore. There have also been boos and hisses at not-so-bad-baddie Corrupta all the way from Australia.
Lu Kemp, artistic director for Perth Theatre, said:“It’s terrifically exciting to see people across the world enjoying Perth Theatre panto.
“It’s been a tough year for everyone, so it’s heart-warming to be able to share some Christmas joy together.
“The live interactive broadcast is a surprisingly intimate experience, it allows the cast to see who is watching and engage directly with them.
“We also do the usual personalised shout outs (or‘menshies’as we call them here).
“We’ve had families take a virtual trip to panto together from households in different countries, we’ve had whole schools joining in from their classrooms, and we’ve had some fantastic feedback from audiences.”
Oh Yes We Are! A Quest For Long Lost Light And Laughter takes audiences on a magical journey through different rooms of the theatre as they join a cast of entertaining characters on a quest to emerge from the doomy gloom into a world of light and laughter.
The show is broadcast live and interactive online from Perth Theatre until this Thursday, December 24. For tickets and info visit www.horsecross.co.uk
