Retirees mark 20 years of Burnside
Burnside Court in Alyth has celebrated 20 years as a thriving retirement community.
Normally celebrations at Burnside Court are a sociable affair but this year has brought out the residents’creative side.
With the help of Caledonia Housing Association and spearheaded by scheme manager Sandie MacKenzie, Burnside Court staff have produced a book celebrating the landmark occasion.
The book has articles from the residents and members of the Alyth community with before and after pictures, a poem about a life centered around the burn that runs through the scheme and a personal account of moving in, 20 years ago as the development opened, by Burnside Court resident Jessie.
Caledonia has brought the residents’ articles together into a glossy book which has been delivered to every Burnside Court resident last week as the development’s 20th year begins to draw to a close.
Not put off by the December drizzle,
Burnside Court’s resident poet Elma Mitchell was delighted to get her first glimpse of the finished book with scheme manager Sandie MacKenzie.
Julie Cosgrove, Caledonia Housing Association’s chief executive, commented:“Burnside Court is a wonderful example of how a development of homes can become more than bricks and mortar and turn into a fantastic vibrant community.
“This book highlights the wonderful happy memories, stories and anecdotes collected and cherished over the last 20 years by the people who have called Burnside Court home, which Caledonia are proud to provide and be a part of.”
To commemorate the anniversary year, Caledonia Housing Association gifted the wooden bench and plaque to Burnside Court.
The bench provides the perfect spot for residents to enjoy the gardens, next to the central community hub that forms a central point for the twenty-six individual retirement homes that make up Burnside Court.
