Kinross champs put in sum effort
P6 pupils triumph in online maths contest
Kinross Primary School pupils were crowned champions of the Perth and Kinross ‘Sumdog’ maths contest.
Sumdog is an engaging online tool which enables learners to practise mathematical concepts and every year Perth and Kinross schools go head to head to see who can do best in the competition.
As part of the contest, pupil groups worked together over a week to complete 1000 maths questions.
The results were out on Friday, January 21 and primary 6b at Kinross Primary hit the top spot.
The class members were awarded an average score for correct answers, with the group from Kinross achieving a winning average of 813.
Parents of children in P6b have commented that the Sumdog competition “has been a highlight” for the pupils who are all based at home just now, with an exciting climax to the competition bringing out their competitive streak.
Pauline Smith, head teacher at Kinross Primary, said: “We are so proud of all of our classes who took part in the contest, using the competition as a way to practise some of their key learning in maths.
“We have been impressed with all of our pupils’ commitment, determination and enthusiasm in all aspects of their remote learning, but are particularly delighted that the hard work of P6b was rewarded with the Sumdog win.”
In the county-wide contest the Kinross maths champs were followed in second place by P7 at the Community School of Auchterarder with an average of 784 points and P3/4DM also at the Community School of Auchterarder who were third with 598 points.
