Threats to get the ‘boys’ to destroy property

- COURT REPORTER

A Perth thug turned up uninvited at a house in Scone and demanded money he claimed he was owed by the occupants’son.

And if he did not get it by the weekend, 22-year-old Kyle Sandilands threatened he would “come back with the boys”and trash the property.

In a separate incident, the accused smashed a window on the Letham housing estate - and then racially abused a police officer.

Sandilands was jailed for a total of 11 months when he appeared for sentence at Perth Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on November 8, 2019, at Destiny Drive, Scone, he demanded money and threatened to return with others and damage a house there.

He also shouted and swore, smashed the window of a flat in Perth’s Rannoch Road and made racial remarks and threats to police on January 5, 2021.

A further charge was admitted of flouting a 7pm-7am curfew by being in Rannoch Road outwith these times.

Depute fiscal Tina Dickie said the Scone locus was the home address of DanielWood.

His parents were there when the accused arrived on foot about 6pm.

“He spoke to Mrs Wood through the window and then rang the bell,” she explained.

“Her partner then went to the front door.”

The accused said that Daniel Wood owed him money.

“He then said if the money wasn’t paid by Sunday, November 10, he would come back with the boys and they would trash the house, break all the windows and smash the cars up.”

He then left, adding:“It will be the cars and the house next.”

The police were contacted and Sandilands was later traced.

At the time of the January 5 incident, the accused had been in a three-week relationship with a girl but she had told him she could not see him that evening as she was working the next day.

About 8.30pm, however, a“male was heard shouting and banging on the common close door.”

A“smashing noise”was then heard and the police were contacted.

Ms Dickie added:“When officers arrived he made off and a search was carried out.

“He was traced a short time later in rear gardens and was arrested.”

When taken to police HQ, he continued to shout and swear, calling one of the constables“a dirty Polish b ***** d.”

Solicitor David Holmes said the court would be“concerned”at the incident in Scone.

Sandilands had“gone off the rails” in relation to the Right Track scheme and was currently serving a short prison sentence.

Sheriff Neil Bowie ordered the jail term to run from January 6, when the accused had initially been remanded.
