Burn crossing change to care home consent

- KATHRYN ANDERSON

Councillors have approved a change to a planning condition regarding water crossings at a development just outside Alyth.

In September 2019 construction began for the development of a 60-bed care home, 20 homes, and three business units on the former Glenisla golf course.

The business units are now complete, the houses almost completed while the care home is expected to be finished by autumn 2021.

At a meeting of Perth and Kinross Council’s planning and development management committee on March 9, councillors were recommended to allow the developer to modify a planning condition regarding water crossings.

Developer Glenisla Developments Ltd sought permission to modify condition 13 which refers to the timing and delivery of any temporary and permanent crossings over the Back Burn.

The condition required the crossings be in place prior to anyone living in one of the houses.

The reason given was “to take account of the flood risk from the adjacent watercourse”.

The developer asked this requirement be replaced with: “Details of all proposed crossings of the burn along with the timing of their provision shall be submitted to and approved in writing by Perth and Kinross Council prior to their implementation.”

Conservative councillor Ian James moved to approve the motion saying it involved “an element of common sense”.

He said: “There is no change to the plan as such just the timing of it.

“And if it means that the project can go ahead and we can get these houses built and the care home, I think we should go with the recommendation before us.”

Conservative councillor Crawford Reid seconded and the application was unanimously approved.
