Warrant after no-show by road rage man

- COURT REPORTER

A warrant was issued for the arrest on Wednesday of a Perthshire man who caused uproar in a road rage incident near a local school.

Thirty-four-year-old Mark Drummond was to have been sentenced after he obstructed the road with his car and forced another motorist to reverse during a frightening encounter close to Meigle Primary.

But the accused, who was represented by lawyer Steve Lafferty, failed to turn up.

Drummond, of Springbank Road, Alyth, had been told it would have been an “unpleasant incident”for the other driver involved - Rikki Tainsh - and his family.

A supplementary background report had been ordered - and he had been told to stay out of further trouble after he admitted charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and careless driving.

The incidents took place November 21, 2019, on the B954 Dundee Road, Meigle, just yards from the school.

The court was told that his actions were“likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm.”

He shouted and swore and acted in an aggressive manner.

But part of the charge which alleged that he had attempted to get into Mr Tainsh’s vehicle was deleted.

Drummond had initially been charged with dangerous driving but had his guilty plea accepted to the lesser charge of driving carelessly.

He admitted braking harshly that day and obstructing the roadway near the school.

Part of the charge which alleged that he caused Mr Tainsh to take evasive action and that he tailgated his car was deleted.

A solicitor for Drummond said previously:“He’s very apologetic. It was a moment of panic.

“He has regrets about the way he acted.”

The accused suffers from ADHD and is seeking medical help.

“His mother isn’t well and that’s casing his anxiety to be exacerbated.

“He does accept he has a problem with anger.”

The court heard that Drummond was currently subject to a community payback order, involving unpaid work, imposed at another court on March 5 last year.

Sheriff William Wood issued the arrest warrant after the accused’s‘no show.’
