Lottery delight for Bob (82)

Great grandad scoops £30,000 windfall

- ROBBIE CHALMERS

A great grandad from Perth has said “life has brightened up considerably” after his postcode won him £30,000.

Bob Scott landed the cash when PH2 7BU was announced as a winner with People’s Postcode Lottery on Sunday, April 4.

The 82-year-old, who has been widowed for 12 years, discovered how much he had won on a video call with lottery ambassador Judie McCourt.

On seeing his prize, Bob said: “Heaven’s sake! I’ve not to swear, my daughter Rhonda told me not to swear.

“It’s absolutely delightful, it’s unbelievable.

“I never thought the lottery would call me ever, it never entered my scheme of thought at all.

“This is quite the experience.”

Bob, who has three kids, two grandchildren and became a greatgrandfather just before Christmas, plans to share his good fortune among his family, as well as indulging in his own passion of building model ships.

He said: “I’m a marine engineer to trade and have been retired for coming up 23 years.

“I build model galleons and stuff, so now I can get a really expensive kit.

“You’ve made an old man very happy. “Life has brightened up considerably, I can tell you that.”

Asked how he would celebrate, Bob said: “I think I shall order a nice big Indian meal from Manzil’s.

“I’ll probably wake up at three in the morning saying, ‘what the hell has gone on here? What’s happened?’

“I’ve seen the advert on TV and there’s a lady just about fainting, so I know exactly

Bob was the only person playing with the winning postcode but had anyone else played then they would also have won £30,000.

A minimum of 32 per cent of ticket sales goes directly to charities and players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise over £700 million to date for thousands of good causes across Britain and internationally.

Having previously been a treasurer for a local music charity in Perth, Bob was thrilled to learn so many good causes benefited and said: “That’s a lot of lolly isn’t it?”

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: “It was my absolute pleasure to deliver some good news to Bob.

“I hope he enjoys his celebratory takeaway and enjoys treating himself and the family.”
