Motivation not a problem for Perth swimmer Milne set for excitement of selection trials
Stephen Milne is feeling in good shape ahead of taking to the water in London look forward to.”
Scheduled to get underway on Wednesday, Milne is feeling in good shape and reaping the benefits of training with Stirling University.
“There has been a lot more speed work,” he said of his preparation. “We have been focusing on technique as well, gearing towards my main events which will be the 200m and 400m freestyle.
“We have done a few time trials at the pool at Stirling and I also had a competition in Manchester last month.
“My last competition before that was the Edinburgh International in March last year - before the lockdown.
“It had been a year since I had competed. It was really nice to get back into an environment with other competitors.
“We train for these events so I felt very fortunate that I was able to get back to competition.”
Milne will be joined in London next week by fellow Stirling Uni swimmer Scott McLay, who also hails from Perth. Rising Perth City Swim Club star Katherine Bailey is pencilled in to compete in the 400m and 800m freestyle.
“As a former Perth City swimmer, it’s nice to see Katherine coming through and getting to the high level of competition,” Milne said.
“She is on her own swim journey and pathway. Getting exposure to these kind of events will be good for her development.”
