A children’s charity partly based in the region is calling upon fans from across the “geeky multiverse”to unite for the fourth‘Geeky T-Shirt Day’.

On Tuesday, May 4 CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland) is encouraging fans to show allegiance to their favourite science-fiction, fantasy, cartoon or musical hero by digging out their favourite shirt to wear on the day.

Those looking to take part can don a shirt with an image of their favourite band, movie, motto or cartoon, and then share their efforts using the #MayThe4thBeWithCHAS hashtag, then donate £4 by texting‘Geeky 4’to 70450.

The nationwide appeal supports the variety of hospice services provided to CHAS families, one of which is Rachel House in Kinross.

Ambassadors for the annual event in 2020 included the likes of Crieff’s StarWars icon Ewan McGregor, Doctor Who favourites Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker, Golden Globe winner Brian Cox from Dundee, as well as a power of guests from across the world of sci-fi and fantasy cinema and TV.

The funds raised by the online event will help CHAS on its mission to reach every single baby, child and young person who needs its support.

Community fundraiser at CHAS Emma Gartland said: “We continue to be blown away by how far this appeal can travel and the way so many different communities have rallied round to support it.

“The message is universal – friends, family and community are crucial to us all right now and May 4 has become a day when we remind CHAS children and families that we walk with them.

“If people feel they’re in a place to donate, to help sustain the clinical and social services our hospice, home and hospital teams continue to provide in the face of this current reality, we would be immensely grateful for the support.”
