Foster carers with big hearts wanted

-

Perth and Kinross Council is looking to recruit new foster carers to ensure the region’s children and young people can continue to be looked after.

The council’s Family Based Care Team want to hear from anyone“up for making a change this year”and take on a role that can“make a real and lasting difference to a young life”.

Children and young people in care have often had difficult family experiences and need carers who can offer them“a stable family experience”.

Applicants don’t need formal qualifications to become a foster carer as full and ongoing training and support is provided.

However, the council is seeking personal qualities like patience, understanding and a good sense of humour for the role.

Alongside this, approved foster carers receive allowances for their services based on the age of the child or young person they are caring for, as well as additional holiday allowances paid for Christmas, summer holidays, and the child’s birthday.

There is a range of different types of fostering that carers can provide, from short breaks to interim and permanent fostering.

Foster carers are also needed who can care for brothers and sisters together in one family environment.

Depute director of education and children’s services Jacquie Pepper said: “Foster care within Perth and Kinross is a vital part of our services when children and young people cannot remain within their own families.

“It is a really rewarding role and helps us to keep our children local along with their brothers and sisters.

“I am always amazed at the big hearts our foster carers have and the huge difference they make to children and their families.

“This has been a tough year for everyone and many of us have re-evaluated what’s important and changed our lifestyles - so if you are thinking about a change of career, and taking on new challenges and seeking a fulfilling role - perhaps now is the time to consider fostering.”
