Roadrage driver is sparedjail afterclash nearschool
A Perthshire man caused uproar near a local primary school, causing an obstruction with his car and forcing another motorist to reverse during a frightening road rage confrontation.
Thirty-four-year-old Mark Drummond, of Springbank Road, Alyth, was told by Sheriff William Wood that what happened had been “entirely avoidable.”
He added: “This was quite simply a road rage incident. There were children in the car and it would have caused a lot of concern.”
The accused was spared a jail term when he appeared for sentence at Perth Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Instead, he was ordered to complete 90 hours of unpaid work and had nine penalty points imposed on his licence.
He admitted that on November 21, 2019, at the B954 Dundee Road, near Meigle Primary School, he shouted and swore and acted in an aggressive manner.
Part of the charge which alleged he had attempted to get into Mr Rikki Tainsh’s vehicle was deleted.
He had initially been charged with dangerous driving but had his guilty plea accepted to the lesser charge of driving carelessly.
He admitted braking harshly that day and obstructing the roadway.
Part of the charge which alleged that he caused Mr Tainsh to take evasive action and that he tailgated his car was deleted.
A solicitor for Drummond said previously: “He’s very apologetic. It was a moment of panic. He has regrets about the way he acted. He does accept he has a problem with anger.”
Lawyer Steve Lafferty told the court this week that the accused suffered from “anxiety and depression.” He added: “It was a very unpleasant incident. There are now speed ramps in that locality.”
Sheriff Wood said he had considered disqualifying the accused but had decided that could be avoided but he pointed out that if Drummond was convicted of any future road traffic offences, it would only need three penalty points to trigger a ban under the “totting-up” procedure.
