Home talent May’s‘heart is with St Johnstone’

- MATTHEW GALLAGHER

Stevie May reckons Callum Davidson has built something very special in Perth.

And the homegrown striker, from Newburgh, didn’t think twice about penning a new two-year contract.

May, a League Cup and Scottish Cup winner with Saints, signed on until at least 2023 earlier this week.

“St Johnstone is where my heart is and it’s where I’ve enjoyed my most successful times in football,”May beamed.

“We have achieved some great things this season, such as winning the Betfred League Cup and finishing in the top six.

“After defeating Rangers on Sunday we have given ourselves a chance of creating some more history.

“The manager has built something very special this season and I’m proud to be a part of it all. He and his backroom staff have us believing in every single game.”

May added:“We will now try and finish the last few games of the season in the best way we can and, on a personal level, to have my contract situation sorted out is great news. This is where I want to be.”

Hot on the heels of May extending his stay was more good news for Perth fans when defender Callum Booth agreed a new one-year deal.

“This season has been incredible and to get a League Cup winners’medal was phenomenal,”Booth said.

“I’m really enjoying my football and we have a great bunch of lads in the dressingroom. We now have a Scottish Cup semi to look forward to and we will give it our very best to be successful in this competition.

“But we have an important league fixture on Saturday at Hibs. I enjoy going back to Easter Road and I hope we can go there and get another positive result.”

Booth may have a busy time of it through to the end of the season.

It looks like fellow left-sided full-back Scott Tanser’s season is over after suffering an ankle injury at Ibrox.

But, with more positive injury news, manager Callum Davidson confirmed Murray Davidson is back in full training.
