Popular race off again due to COVID
Organisers of the RattrayBlairgowrie half-marathon have announced that this year’s edition of the popular fundraising event has been cancelled once again due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
The event, which would have been the fourth since Rattray marathon runner Peter Ritchie brought the event back to the area after an absence of more than 20 years – and which has raised thousands of pounds for various local and national charities over the years – was to have taken place on June 6.
But, despite the disappointment of having to cancel once again, Peter has decided to tackle a 55-mile charity run to raise much-needed funds for local groups and charities.
Peter, who recently turned 60, will be completing his epic challenge on Thursday, June 13, as part of the 2021 virtual Comrades Marathon.
And he is keen to hear from any organisations in the area that work with young people and would like to receive a donation.
Peter said:“We are disappointed to have to cancel the RattrayBlairgowrie half marathon again this year but people’s health and safety must come first.
“However, we still want to do what we can to support local good causes, many of which haven’t be able to do any fundraising of their own in over a year since the coronavirus pandemic hit.
“As such, I will be doing a 55-mile charity run to raise funds for as many local groups and organisations as I can.
“I have already thought about helping the Wellmeadow Boxing Club, the Cubs and the Brownies and Guides in Blairgowrie, but would like to hear from anyone else who would like a share of the money we raise.”
Peter has set up a JustGiving page through which donations to his fundraising efforts can be made.
It can be found by searching for‘Peter Ritchie Comrades’on the website www.justgiving.com.
Anyone interested in potentially receiving a donation can contact Peter by calling 01250 873923.
