Concerns over golf park plans

- PAUL CARGILL

Acommunity council has questioned the appropriateness of a planned animalthemed adventure golf course on the outskirts of Perth.

TheWillowgateTrout and Salmon Fishery has applied forconsent to form an 18-hole minicourse featuring fibre glass replicas of arange of exoticanimals under th e F riarton Bridge beside theRiverTay.

West CarseCommunity Council hassaid it understands the fishery’s wishes to enhanceits offer to potential visitors but has questioned whether the proposalis“in keeping”with therest of its attractions.

The group has told PKC:“Theinitial concept of theWillowgate development aimed to celebrateand educate on the history, useand wildlife on theriver area while providing educationaland general opportunities around the skills and crafts associatedwith theriver.

“Whilst appreciating thecentre’s wishes to increase public use of theWillowgate’s facilities by providing attractions thatwill generate what must be muchneeded income,we think it isfair to say that there is some disappointment locally at the proposed theme.”

“A safari-themed layout decoratedwith large fibre glass representations of wild jungleanimalsfrom far off continents and with a large gaudy entrance seems, frankly, not inkeeping and couldbe seen asa worrying step towards inappropriate commercialisation of the area.”

Theapplication awaits a decision from PKC.
