Teenager on Right Track after brutal attack

- COURT REPORTER

A Perthshire teenager, spared detention after he brutally attacked a complete stranger in his home, is making good progress on the Right Track scheme, set up to keep wayward youngsters on the straight and narrow.

Perth Sheriff Court was told this week that Jordan Graham, who can now be named as he has turned 18, has already completed almost 90 hours of unpaid work.

But Sheriff Gillian Wade warned him it was “extremely important” he had another positive report at his next review.

“You will appreciate this was a very serious offence,” she said.

The court was told previously that the 16-year-old victim “curled up to protect himself” after he was confronted in his home.

He was sitting on the settee in his house in Coupar Angus when the accused, who was 17 at the time, brazenly opened the unlocked front door.

He made his way to the living room where he “immediately” began to repeatedly punch the other teen on the face.

The accused then began stamping on the complainer’s head and body.

The vicious attack was only halted when the mother of the victim heard the commotion and went to investigate.

Fortunately, the 16-year-old escaped with minor cuts and he declined medical attention.

Graham, also known as Hayburn, of Larghan View, Coupar Angus, admitted the assault which took place in a house on a local estate on October 5, 2019.

Solicitor Mike Tavendale described the latest Right Track report on Wednesday as “positive”.

Graham will return to court for his completion report on August 4.

The sheriff said the court would then possibly be looking at a “top end” community payback order.
