Take a virtual ‘walk’ through a gallery to see photo exhibition

- MELANIE BONN

The Perthshire Photographic Society’s (PPS) 2021 exhibition has partnered with the Perth Festival of the Arts to display spectacular images through an online portal.

The photo exhibition is not being held in a real space. Because of the limitations of the pandemic, it is being presented in a virtual gallery so that visitors can ‘walk’from room to room admiring the work and finding out about the photographers - all without leaving home.

The PPS comes under the umbrella of the Perthshire Society of Natural Sciences, as the photographic section of the long-running group.

PPS’s new vice president and exhibition curator, Ian Mackay explained the exhibition is crammed with local talent and familiar Perthshire subjects.

“We put a call out to all our 55 or so members and some 111 pictures were sent in for inclusion.

“We didn’t just select the best, we exhibited every one we got, so you will see , some are technically brilliant and some are a little less experienced. But we love the spirit of full inclusion of all who wanted to show their work, no matter what level they’re at.

“There is every kind of subject captured and we include lots of detail about how the images came about.

“The beauty of this online show is you can go back in again and again and people all over the world can enjoy it too, 24 hours a day.”

Ian explained the site: “On entering the exhibition, you have a few ways to enjoy the works on display.

“There are three rooms in front of you, with a darker floor in room two to help you keep your bearings as you move through the virtual galleries.

“The larger rooms one and three have partitions in them, giving more wall space for you to enjoy the works. “Getting around is quite easy.

“The platform doesn’t open information panels as you wander – you’ll have to do that for the ones you are interested in.

“Alternatively, you can let the platform take you around via the tour.”

The PPS exhibition is up from now until June 19 and can be found using the following link: http://www. perthshirephotographicsociety.org. uk/pfa-exhibition
