Cash appeal to make hall warm and welcoming

New chairs and tables for users

An appeal for funds has been made to improve the experience at a Perthshire community facility.

The committee at Caputh Village Hall urgently needs cash to improve tables and chairs, and to complete much-needed improvements.

A Crowdfunding campaign was launched privately on Monday and will go live on Wednesday, June 2.

It is hoped to raise enough money for 125 new chairs and six tables.

A spokesperson for the hall committee said: “Our small, rural village Caputh has a very special hall. After 112 years of parties, gatherings and classes it’s in need of a lot of TLC. We need your help.

“In order to ensure we can complete its muchneeded improvements, we decided to launch a once in a generation fundraising campaign.

“Caputh Hall committee has been busy canvassing around the area on how the local community would like to use the hall and what needs to be improved. We have also been working hard to get funding in place from every channel and grant available to us. We are very nearly there.

“In the past our hall has been a busy and well-used resource for our community. With the hall regenerated the community would love to see many more ceilidhs, coffee mornings, a choice of exercise classes, concerts and perhaps even a wedding or two.

“We hope that a warm and welcoming hall will become a vibrant hub for the community once again.”

The committee hopes the appeal, which is offering rewards to those who donate, will help them improve accessibility and heating.

The spokesperson explained: “For every large event, volunteers spend hours lifting heavy benches, chairs and trestle tables from under the stage and the shed.

“For access, a large, rickety wooden ramp has to be positioned outside and manned by two people, The Rural, who used to meet in the hall regularly, would huddle around a gas fire in the kitchen to stay warm on uncomfortable old chairs.

“The renovation of the hall will change all this. We’d like the hall to feel accessible, easy to use and comfortable for all who use it.”

Groups who use the hall include Caputh Playgroup and Ballet for Toddlers and the Rural (SWRI). It is also used for Pilates classes and by the church, local businesses and community organisations.
