Perth Doo’cot claim thrilling victory

-

It was a successful weekend to pull on the colours of Perth Doo’cot.

The 1st XI travelled to Broughty Ferry to take on Forfarshire 2nd XI and came away with a thrilling eight-run league victory.

Batting first, the Perth side recorded a testing total of 193-7 from their 45 overs, built around a patient 47 from Callum Laing.

He was well supported by Sunil Mathur (34) and Grant Anderson (25) before Jamal Ali smashed a rapid 33 towards the end of the innings.

After some poor batting performances this year, it was a return to form that was much needed.

In reply, Forfarshire slumped to 77 for five with Mohammed Mohsin taking 3-18 in his nine overs.

Forfarshire counter-attacked, though, as Rennie and Sim put on 101 leaving them needing 16 to win with five wickets in hand.

But Rory Pennycook and Jack Emslie then both took two wickets with successive balls as the home side collapsed to 184-9.

Sim was still there but Jamal Ali took a fantastic catch off his skipper’s bowling to leave Forfarshire 185 all out.

Pennycook finished with impressive figures of 3-23 and Emslie 2-33.

It was an admittedly understrength Dundee High 2nd XI who visited Doo’cot on Saturday to take on Perth’s 2nd XI.

But the Fair City men produced a professional display in a convincing nine wicket win.

The visitors were only able to compile 100 with all seven of Perth’s bowlers amongst the wickets.

In reply, Doo’cot raced to a nine wicket win in only 16 overs thanks to a maiden senior 50 for young Iain Chalmers who finished 53 not out.

The same two clubs met on Sunday at 3rd XI level with the match finishing in a tie.

Perth Doo’cot batted first and scored 122 for eight in their 35 overs with Muhammed Shoaib top scoring with 55.

Dundee High School needed six to win from the final over but skipper Jack Emslie kept his nerve and the hosts finished on 122 for 6. Shoaib completed a fine all-round performance by taking three for 14.

This weekend is a busy one with the 1st XI hosting Arbroath in the league on Saturday before welcoming East Kilbride on Sunday in a rearranged Scottish Cup tie.

The original match at East Kilbride was abandoned due to rain and, under competition rules, replayed matches change venue so Doo’cot are at home this time. The 2nd XI make the short journey to Inchture on Saturday to play Rossie Priory.
