Stable building can now host events
Planning permission has been granted for a B-listed stable building to be used for events.
Listed building consent was also granted for the stable building 180 metres north of the associated Auchterarder House.
Both planning applications were put before Perth and Kinross Council’s planning and development management committee on Tuesday, June 1.
The applications were made by Denholm Partnership Architects on behalf of the applicant Robert Wiseman.
A total of eight representations were submitted to PKC regarding the change of use application for the stable building.
Objector Professor Colville Laird made a deputation to the planning and development management committee citing concerns about noise and damage to an ancient woodland dating back to the 1700s to form a car park.
The response in PKC’s report of handling to the loss of ancient woodland said: “It is accepted that the parking area cannot reasonably be located in any other area within the applicant’s ownership, such that it was proportionately accessible to the stables.
“As such, compensation and mitigation of the impact on the woodland is required.” A total of 27 new trees are proposed. A noise management plan will be required for the stables venue.
Up to 30 events a year in total can be held in the stables venue and the associated Auchterarder House which was granted planning permission in March in a separate application.
Approving the change of use plans, Strathallan SNP councillor Tom Gray said he felt it would be“unobtrusive”and that the trees will“dampen the noise.”
Cllr Gray said the building had held many functions when it operated as a hotel and he himself had attended a few there in the past.
Strathtay Conservative councillor Ian James seconded.
There were no deputations for the planning application for listed building consent.
Cllr James moved for approval and said: “It’s nice to see an old building brought back into use.”
Conservative Strathallan councillor Crawford Reid seconded.
Both applications were unanimously approved.
