Pub reopens after Covid outbreak
Cases at The Welcome Inn
Pints are being pulled again at a popular Perth pub which closed on Friday and Saturday because of positive COVID cases.
The Welcome Inn Perth in Letham took action and closed on June 4 and 5 for a deep clean, following an outbreak of the virus that affected some customers and a number of staff members.
Management kept the public informed over the weekend, explaining normal service would be back on Sunday.
“The Welcome Inn will be open tomorrow from 11am,” the pub had posted.
“Staff that’ll be working have all tested negative for COVID.
“We ask that anyone with symptoms does not come in. We are deep cleaning all day today (Saturday) to ensure the place is sanitised ready for tomorrow.”
A spokesperson for Star Pubs and Bars, which owns the venue, explained how the infection scare started.
“A group came into the pub on Saturday, May 29 who subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 as did two members of staff,” the spokesperson said.
“As a precautionary measure, we have closed the pub and are undertaking an enhanced clean before reopening.”
The popular pub on Rannoch Road was given a £490K refurbishment by Star Pubs and Bars in 2019.
Meanwhile, a large Perth pub remained open at the weekend after a number of staff members tested positive for COVID on Friday.
The Sandeman at 1416 Kinnoull Street had employees away selfisolating.
A member of staff explained on Friday the venue was pouring drinks but was “not serving food”.
A spokesperson from Sandeman said: “A small number of our team have tested positive for COVID-19.
“These individuals are taking all necessary precautions, along with other team members that they have been in contact with, and are self-isolating.
“The pub has also undergone a full deep clean and remains open to customers, operating safely under robust COVIDsecure measures.”
The recent infection scares come against a backdrop of rising COVID-19 cases locally.
In the week up until June 1, there were 61 cases in the region, an infection rate of 40.1 per 100,000.
That was compared with 43 cases the week before at a rate of 28.3.
