Views being sought on transport plan
Views are being sought on a transport strategy covering four neighbouring council catchment areas.
The survey is being undertaken by the Tayside and Central Scotland Regional Transport Partnership – known as Tactran – and covers Perth and Kinross Council’s jurisdiction, as well as the Angus, Dundee, and Stirling local authorities.
A PKC spokesperson said the new strategy was being compiled in order to identify what was described as “strategic transport priorities for the region.”
He continued:“How, where and when we travel is changing.
“We need to ensure that everyone can access jobs, education, healthcare and local services, while also addressing the climate emergency and reducing pollution from transport.
“We need to ensure businesses reach their markets efficiently and reliably. We help people live more active lifestyles.”
Tactran is chaired by Councillor Richard McCready, who is an elected member in Dundee.
He said:“It is important that we have a strategic framework in place that recognises the urgent challenges of the climate emergency and the social and economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We also need to address the rapidly changing world in terms of how we live and work, and the opportunities technology presents.
“We need to know what you need the bus, rail, walking, cycling and road networks to do so we can help shape a transport network that meets your and society’s needs.”
Tactran is consulting on the main issues for the regional strategy until July 26.
Following consideration, further consultation will be taken later this year on the options that could help deliver the transport networks needed.
