Fellow sports students get on their bikes for fundraiser
Students and staff at Perth College UHI have paid tribute to Jordan Hart.
Jordan was a student on the NQ Sports Studies course and had been voted class representative by his peers in what staff at the college have described as a“demonstration of his character and their faith and trust in him to represent them in matters related to the course”.
Following his death last year, Jordan’s fellow sport and fitness students and staff came together for a one-minute silence on his birthday, and the students said that they wanted to organise a fundraiser to raise awareness of the importance of mental health.
Staff have liaised with Jordan’s mum Susan over the last six months and were pleased to be able to create an event with Susan that acknowledges Jordan’s own 100 Challenge that he was doing with the Cadets.
This saw students from the NQ Sports Studies and NQ Sport and Fitness courses, and Jordan’s family, cycle 100 miles during a spin class to raise funds for The Lighthouse for Perth project and the‘happy to chat - happy to listen’benches that the family are fundraising for.
Dr Margaret Cook, principal and chief executive for Perth College UHI, said:“Jordan was a valued member of our student community and we wanted to do all we could to support a memorial fundraising event with Jordan’s family.
“We understand mental health is just as important as physical health and were honoured to be able to facilitate an event where family, fellow students and staff could take part in the 100-mile spin challenge in Jordan’s memory.”
