Perthshire Hockey Club reflected on the “season that never happened” at their recent AGM.

The COVID-19 pandemic meant that, disappointingly, no national or district league matches were played across the past year.

But despite competitive hockey being sidelined and the usual awards unable to take place, the club made sure to recognise the efforts of members.

Those who kept youngsters and adults playing when restrictions allowed were praised by president Gordon Loudon.

The President’s Award went to Jess Martin, Club Award to Kerr and Karen Thomson, while the Youth Coaches Award was won by Caitlin McShea and Tom Cahalin.

“The club continues to go from strength to strength and we are indebted to all our committee and coaches who give many hours on and off the pitch to ensure that the club continues to thrive,” club president Gordon noted.

“Our junior section continually produces players of a really high standard and this is recognised by Scottish Hockey as we have had 31 players who have been training with academy and performance squads across the age groups.

“We look forward and are reasonably hopeful that we can resume league hockey later this year and we look forward to existing members returning and also some new players joining us.

“For those who are leaving to attend university, we wish them well in their studies and also their future hockey careers and they are welcome to join us at training or our social events if they are back home.

“We will be continuing our summer mixed social hockey and there are plans to have youth festivals and matches during the summer.”

Gordon concluded: “It is both an honour and pleasure to be president of such a great club with many very talented and committed members as we begin to prepare for our next season and towards our 50th anniversary in 2025.”
