Venues prepare to lift the curtain on events again for autumn programme

- KATHRYN ANDERSON

Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre are making preparations to welcome audiences inside its venues again.

Horsecross Arts plans to launch its autumn programme in August.

A number of outdoor and online events have taken place complying with COVID restrictions.

And following the first minister’s announcement this week, Horsecross Arts will finally be able to welcome audiences inside its Perth venues.

Back in May 2021 Horsecross chief executive Nick Williams said Horsecross would be unable to open its venues fully unless social distancing measures were lifted because the body could not make it work economically.

This week Nicola Sturgeon said she hoped it would be possible to remove social distancing indoors on August 9 along with all other “major remaining legal restrictions”.

Mr Williams welcomed the news and said Horsecross had been working on its autumn programme for some time“with the view that we will be able to reopen without social distancing”.

He told the PA:“Many autumn shows have been on sale for some time and we will launch our full autumn season in August, after our Summer Festival.

“We are taking a cautious approach - we want to keep our audiences, artists and staff safe after all - and fuller details of how we will operate will be announced alongside the programme detail shortly.”

Before then, the Live and Unlocked Summer Festival will take place from July 28 to August 2 on Perth Concert Hall Plaza.

The family-friendly festival will include music, theatre and children’s shows.
