It’s full spud ahead after tattie race hiatus

-

The Great Perthshire Tattie Run is returning to the Fair City after its hiatus last year due to COVID-19.

Organisers have confirmed the event will go ahead on Saturday, August 14.

With work taking place around City Hall, the action will move to the North Inch from 2pm with participants running a mile while carrying a bag of tatties.

Around 100 people have already signed up, with organisers hoping to beat the 290 entrants who took part in 2019.

It is also hoped runners will head to Perth from Edinburgh, where the tattie run has once again been cancelled.

All participants receive a medal and get to take their bag of tatties home after they have completed their run. The event was launched on Wednesday by Provost

Dennis Melloy, with organisers praising the council for its support in hosting the event.

Entry is free thanks to event sponsors Branston Ltd

Jackie Baker, communication manager at Branston Ltd, said:“Branston Ltd is delighted again to be picking up the sponsorship for The Great Perthshire Tattie Run.

“It is a fantastic event which gives everyone a chance to compete in a unique challenge.

“Covering a distance of one mile and carrying a bag of tatties is not as easy as it sounds. We’ve seen some very interesting techniques and an eclectic range of attire. It’s all part of the fun of the tattie run. Plus you get to take your tatties home.”
