Rachel wants to be top of the pops

Songwriter is so single-minded with new release

- DOUGLAS DICKIE

A Kinross songwriter is hoping to be top of the pops when she releases a new single next week.

Rachel White, now based in London, gained praise for her last single ‘Over It’ when it was released in the spring.

And now she is banking on selfpenned tune ‘Crush’ gaining even more admirers.

It is a far cry from 16 months ago when Rachel ended up stuck on a docked cruise ship in Dubai when the COVID pandemic hit.

However, that did open the door for her to concentrate on her songwriting and she is now crafting her own brand of UK hook-laden pop.

Her latest offering is billed as having a “relatable theme and catchy melody that’s hard to forget”.

It is also described as a “fun, positive summer song about longing for someone”.

Speaking about her new release, Rachel, who lists the likes of Hailee Steinfeld, Lady Gaga, Shawn Mendes and The Spice Girls as inspirations, said: “My music is like a journal being spoken out loud. I have always wanted to write relatable lyrics that people can get something from while enjoying the melody that comes with it. I feel that’s really encapsulated in Crush.

“Writing Crush was a natural process – I wanted to keep things simple and direct real meaning into the lyrics. I’m hoping it’s one that people can’t get out of their heads and can’t help but add to their summer playlist. I’m so proud of the track and really grateful for the small team of people that came together to help make it all possible.”

A talented singer and dancer, Rachel’s love for dance blossomed while attending regular dance classes as a youngster.

She went on to study performing arts before travelling around the world to countries like Oman and Germany on a variety of performance contracts, before ending up stuck on the cruise ship in the Gulf last March.

The release of the track will be accompanied by a music video. Produced by Vision by JD Studios, it sees Rachel combine high-energy choreography, stunning set designs and 90s fashion references to “promote inclusivity and acceptance”.

The creation of Rachel’s new track and the video was self-funded and supported by a close-knit team including London-based Adam Rowley on production and Chris Sutherland in Aberdeen who took care of mixing and mastering.

The video was directed and edited by Jack Douglas and choreographed by Marvyn Charles, while Jessica Ranaldi

Designs was head of wardrobe. Crush was recorded between Rachel’s home and Adam’s home studio in Clapham.

Rachel will play her first festival this year when she joins the bill for Kirkcaldy’s Breakout Festival on October 10 and her debut solo performance will see her support Cameron Barnes at a sold-out show in Edinburgh on October 16.

Crush will be available to stream and download on all digital platforms, on Friday, August 13. The official video will be released on RachelWhiteVevo on YouTube on Friday, August 20. Pre-order the track now at: https://distrokid.com/ hyperfollow/rachelwhite/crush
