Personal touch at the heart of care home
Perth’s Kincarrathie House residential care home has recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.
It was on August 1, 1961, the home was established and over the years it has developed in such a way that it now ranks among the best care homes in Scotland.
The B-listed building and surrounding private grounds which overlook Isla Road, with the North Inch in the distance, was the one-time home of Perth whisky baron AK Bell and his wife, Camilla.
The home has a 60-strong team of staff dedicated to providing a highly professional and personalised service who are committed to doing all they can to maintain the highest of standards to create a welcoming, spacious and comfortable environment.
The home has 44 en-suite rooms, various public areas, including a reception area, two lounges, two sun parlours, and a stunning dining room all of which are tastefully furnished and decorated to a very high standard. There is a call system fitted throughout the entire home including all public areas ensuring that no matter where a resident is, help is always at hand.
There is WiFi throughout the building which enables those residents who wish, to enjoy the benefits which broadband brings.
There is a wide range of activities and outings on offer for residents to choose from (there are two activity co-ordinators) and these are individually tailored to meet personal preferences. Residents are encouraged to make full use of the awardwinning garden and grounds, and many enjoy a daily walk or a mobility scooter ride.
The garden is a great source of fresh fruit and vegetables which complement locally-sourced quality raw ingredients which the three chefs use to produce meals that are both nutritious and delicious. Two hairdressers help to ensure residents always look their best.
The home is on a bus route and has car parking for those residents who still value their own independence.
The home is consistently rated as “very good” or “excellent” across the categories regularly assessed by the Care Inspectorate.
Kincarrathie is a non-profit making charitable trust, which makes it surprisingly affordable when compared with many privately operated care homes. All income generated from fees from residents are invested back into the home.
Over the past 18 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kincarrathie has stayed clear of any infection.
This has been the home’s number one aim and while COVID-19 is an ongoing risk, all the measures in place have so far been successful.
Despite the many restrictions lockdown brought, through the creative and innovative use of technology and the large garden and grounds that form part of the Kincarrathie estate, the residents have enjoyed a full and varied programme of social activities and regular contact with families and friends.
With the prospect of the return to greater normality, the trustees, management and staff are planning various events later in the year and into next year to celebrate the past 60 years. In the longer term, the focus in very much on the future to ensure that all that has been achieved
