£725k to local projects

-

SSE Renewables says its donated more than £725,000 to 50 community projects across Perth and Kinross in the last year and is on course to donate millions more over the next 15 years.

Details of the energy provider’s latest donations are contained within its newly-published annual Community Investment Review.

The cash comes from the company’s Griffin and Calliachar wind farms through which it expects to invest £11 million in community and charitable projects by 2036.

Much of the funding support from the wind farms in the last year is said to have gone to provide local communities with pandemic support.

Managing director Jim Smith commented:“The past year has demonstrated to us all how important our local communities are. We are committed to using the green recovery and the growth of our renewables infrastructure to help even more communities in the year to come.”

One recent beneficiary was Dunkeld and Birnam Sports and Leisure Hub who were awarded £200,000 to build a new multipurposed sports facility.

Hub trustee David Tripney remarked:“The significant award we have recently received from SSE Renewables Griffin and Calliachar Community Fund towards our plans for a covered multi-use games area is a massively important contribution to our project. ”

Another group to benefit was Highland Perthshire Cycling who were able to complete a new cycle initiative called Perthshire Gravel Trails thanks to £15,000 of additional support.
