Colour and fun for all

- DOUGLAS DICKIE

Perth was awash with colour at the weekend with the return of Perthshire Pride.

The annual LGBT+ celebration was back with ‘Pride in The Yard’ having been cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A number of exciting events took place across the region on Saturday and Sunday, with the Pride parade headlining at The Yard at The Ice Factory in Perth.

Residents were able to stroll through stalls from key LGBT+ groups and enjoy a variety of performances including drag queen DJ sets, workshops, a pub quiz from Perth Parrots and Pridethemed cocktails.

Events were also held at the likes of Brewdog, 269 Vegan Perth and Big Dog Books.

And on Sunday, Barking with Pride took place on the North Inch as the region’s dog owners showed their support for the LGBT+ community.

After the event drew to a close on Sunday, co-chair of Perthshire Pride Anna Davies told the PA: “This weekend was brilliant.

“Pride in the Yard was a great success. The atmosphere was fantastic and it was so good to see everyone again after two years.

“There was a real family atmosphere on the Sunday and for the first parts of the Saturday, which makes it such an enjoyable Pride festival.

“Weekends like this are so important to the LGBT+ community, it allows everyone to celebrate who they are, and for others to show their support.

“Thank you to everyone that came along and made this year’s Perthshire Pride amazing. The Perthshire Pride team is completely voluntary, and they have all done an incredible job, particularly with changing restrictions etc. Many of them probably felt they were cleaning and sanitising tables and chairs constantly, but this allowed all those who enjoyed the day to be as safe as possible.

“And thank you to the people at the Ice Factory and The Yard for letting us have Pride at their venue.”

Anna added that the group needs funding to keep the event going in future years and asked people to visit www.PerthshirePride.com to show their support.
