Pool delay but date set to get back in the swim
October 11 reopening after electrics issue hinders plan
Perth Leisure Pool’s reopening has been further delayed - but a date has been set for when swimmers will return after 18 months.
The leisure facility - described by VisitScotland as “one of Scotland’s most popular visitor attractions” - has been closed since the first lockdown in March 2020.
After suffering £1 million of flood damage in August 2020 it was scheduled to reopen in September 2021.
However, an unforeseen electrical issue has hindered those plans.
Live Active Leisure’s chief executive has revealed Perth Leisure Pool will now not open until the first day of the autumn school holidays - October 11.
The leisure facility’s plant room was flooded with 140,000 gallons of water during the August 11/12, 2020 storm.
In late July 2021 repair works were on track for the venue to reopen in late September. But this has now been pushed back.
Chief executive Paul Cromwell told the PA this week: “Work continues to progress with the reinstatement of Perth Leisure Pool.
“During the last two weeks the project team encountered an unforeseeable electrical issue. This has now been resolved and we would like to thank our principal contractor SSE and Perth and Kinross Council for their support and quick response in minimising the impact of this additional work.
“This issue has unfortunately delayed the projected reopening of the venue until Monday, October 11. The reinstatement of Perth Leisure Pool remains an incredibly complex project, but please be assured that we continue to do everything we can to get the venue open as soon as possible.”
